GST bill in assembly

As part of implementing the goods and service tax (GST) in the state, the bill would be passed in the upcoming assembly session .
Finance minister T M Thomas Isaac has convened a meeting of the officials to review the progress of GST implementation on Thursday. Each chapter of the draft law was presented by sales tax commissioners at the meeting.
Isaac confirmed that the GST would cover lotteries too as it comes under goods category. Now the lottery sales can be done only as per the Central Lottery Act. Hence the state has decided to comply with the central rules and change the guidelines regarding taxation of lottery sales.
Adding that all steps have been initiated for smooth implementation of the law, the minister noted that 70% traders have completed their registration so far. Officials concerned were imparted training classes regarding various clauses of the law and its enforcement.
The minister added that the government has sought legal opinion from advocate general and the law department regarding how the state could protect its interests while implementing the tax norms.
